Becomes first director of Elizabethton’s first assisted living community, serving Johnson City, Tenn. and Bristol, Tenn.

ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. (February 11, 2015) – Rhonda Mitchell has been named executive director of Sycamore Springs Senior Living Community, Elizabethon’s first assisted living facility, scheduled to open in April 2015.

“Rhonda’s compassion for others and her leadership in her community made her the obvious choice to lead Sycamore Springs. I know our residents will love her, and their families will quickly come to trust Rhonda and recognize the high level of care provided by her and the rest of the staff,” says Bryan Cook, Senior Vice President of Cleveland, Tenn.-based Legacy Senior Services, which will manage Sycamore Springs Senior Living Community.

Previously Mitchell managed sales and marketing at Hermitage Health Center and Hillview Health and Rehabilitation Center in Elizabethton. She is an alumna of the Elizabethton Chamber of Commerce Adult Leadership Program.

“As a teenager, I developed empathy and compassion when I was caring for my grandmother and grandfather. I learned how important it is to care for someone who is no longer able to care for themselves. By listening to their stories and events from their lives, I gained patience and respect that has been an important part of my life,” says Mitchell.

“I am very thankful and honored to have this opportunity to serve our ‘Greatest Generation’ as Sycamore Springs first director. It is a blessing to be able to serve my community by caring for our veterans, mothers, fathers and grandparents with the love and compassion they deserve. And I am fortunate to be part of a company that shares my respect for seniors and a commitment to enriching their lives,” Mitchell says.

A lifelong resident of Carter County, Tenn., Mitchell has been active in her community from a young age. At age 20, she started an auto-detailing business known as Rhonda’s Wax Shop, which she owned and operated for 14 years. She was also the owner and operator of “Country Wicks and Stitches”, a home decor store.

She has routinely volunteered through a variety of local organizations and leadership roles, including four years delivering “Meals on Wheels” with Elizabethton Senior Center, and time spent serving as a “pet therapy” volunteer at Hillview Health Center.

Mitchell and her husband, Matthew, have been married for eight years. She enjoys knitting, crocheting, gardening and photography.
